Retail therapy isn’t the only thing Manchester is famous for. Southern Vermont hiking is unlike anywhere else and it's right at your fingertips. Hike part of the Long Trail or take a meandering nature walk. Whatever your skill level, the hiking near Manchester, VT, offers something for everyone.
Equinox Pond Loop
If you’re looking for a Manchester, VT, hiking trail that’s on the easier side, one of our favorites is the Equinox Pond Loop. This .75 mile loop follows a level wood road, making it a perfect stop for the casual hiker. Let your little ones splash in the pond while you relax on the shore. And if this short trail leaves you hungry for more Southern Vermont hiking, you’re in luck. This trail is located on the Equinox Preservation Land Trust, which is home to fourteen hiking trails just waiting to be explored.
Prospect Rock Trail
Just a ten minute drive from the town center, Prospect Rock is the perfect place to end a day in Manchester. Though moderately steep, this 3.5-mile trail takes you through a forest of mixed hardwoods, which makes it especially breathtaking during fall foliage season. The summit offers perhaps the best views of the Manchester Valley in the area. Pack a picnic and gaze out over the town. Just don’t forget to pack out anything you bring onto the trail.
Lye Brook Falls
This hike near Manchester, VT, offers one of the finest sights in the area: the 125-foot high Lye Brook Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in Vermont. The Lye Brook Falls trail stretches for 4.6 miles round trip and may be challenging for some hikers due to the a few small stream crossings. Although it is now restored to its natural state, this area was once the home of railroads, charcoal kilns and sawmills at the turn of the century. Many markers of this time period can still be spotted along the trail so be sure to keep an eye out.
Bromley Mountain Trail
Join up with the Long Trail and hike to the top of Bromley Mountain. From the north side of Route 30, it’s a 5.4 mile round trip hike to the summit and back. Enjoy a beautiful 360-degree view from the summit and take in the beauty of southern Vermont. This 5.4 loop trail will take you about 5 or 6 hours to complete so be sure to bring some water and a snack. And, of course, don’t leave home without your camera.
